Description

The Gefran K31-6-M-P10M-1-4-D-S is a melt pressure transducer from the K3 series, designed for high-temperature polymer processing applications where process temperatures can reach 538°C (1,000°F). The K3 series is specifically engineered for use with high-temperature engineered polymers, specialty compounds, and technopolymers.

What sets the K3 series apart is its use of a sodium-potassium (NaK) alloy as the hydraulic pressure transmission medium instead of mercury. NaK is an FDA-recognized GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) substance, making the K31 suitable for food-contact extrusion, medical device manufacturing, and pharmaceutical processing applications where mercury-free operation is required.

The sensor uses standard melt pressure construction principles with bonded foil strain gauge sensing technology. The hydraulic transmission system ensures pressure signal stability at elevated working temperatures. The K31 variant within the K3 family contains approximately 40 mm³ (0.00244 in³) of NaK fill fluid, conforming to RoHS Directive requirements.

Multiple diaphragm materials are available to match specific temperature and chemical resistance needs. Inconel 718 with GTP+ coating handles the full 538°C (1,000°F) temperature range, 15-5 PH stainless steel with GTP+ coating serves applications up to 400°C (750°F), and Hastelloy C276 covers temperatures up to 300°C (570°F). A corrugated 17-7 PH diaphragm with GTP+ coating is offered for pressure ranges below 100 bar (1,500 psi).

Standard thread mounting is 1/2-20 UNF or M18×1.5, with other thread types available on request.
